“We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say.”
― Zeno of Citium, as quoted by Diogenes Laërtius

Listening is one of the fundamental pillars of any good relationship. The most successful leaders make it a habit to listen to their customers as well as the people that work for them. Understanding that you do not have all the answers is important. Listening to your staff may give you important information that might not have been able to attain yourself.

2. Use the power of telling a story.

“If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.”
― Rudyard Kipling, The Collected Jen WorksathomeLeaders who are great storytellers have an advantage in capturing an audience. Storytelling involve the audience and create feelings that can be remembered better than a commercial message.

5. Be a team player

If you think you can do things best on your own, you live in a dillusional world. The most effective leaders use the team that they have hired.

The best leaders are quick to respond. If you make people wait for an answer too long, you are telling them that they are not important. It doesn’t matter if it is an email or just a quick call. Leaders who are quick to respond have more time to focus on the daily issues and don’t risk forgetting to get back to somebody.

7. Always be ready to change.

We live in an ever changing market place. Those who are not able to quickly adapt to these changes will find themselves in a bad postion. Standing your ground is not the greatest method to good business. Show humility and willingness to adapt. This will encourage your followers to be creative and help you develop your business.

8. Passion

“The only way to do great work is to love the work you do.” -Steve Jobs

Leaders who love their jobs don’t feel like they are going to work. They have the felling that they are doing something they enjoy. It is easier to follow a passion than just get up and go to the grind.

9. Simplicity

Less is more. As the world get more complex, customers crave simplicity. Our world is filled with complex designs, form, and functions. Most of these are not even necessary. If you make things simple, people will follow you.

10. Appreciate the people around you

Likable leaders are thankful for the people around them. Make it a point to tell people when you appreciate them. If someone has done a good job, tell them, or even better, tell them in front of a group of people. Public appreciation is worth 10 times what private messages will be.

Above all, treat people as you wish to be treated.
